Wrestling with order online

I am back to wrestling again with weather I should be separating my wanderings and meanderings on the Internet from more serious content. So I have resurrected Useless Nexus as a personal blog of the odds and ends I find interesting. Michael.Mjohnson.net will become something more serious and focused.

As you may recall, I pulled Useless Nexus down back in January because I felt I was over extended. Well that may still be true. But I am more convinced that some of the stuff I post should have a home of it’s own.

So check the feeds you have for me and make sure you are following me.

Sick Day Link Love

I found myself at home today with a sick daughter. I have plenty of work I could be doing. But instead of being productive around th house I decided to comment the heck out of all my friends blogs and their online worlds. So this post is chock full of link love to some of the interesting people I cavort with online.

I posted to Twitter, Pownce, FaceBook, and my favorite, Jaiku that I was doing this today. I didn’t get too many responses.

Of course, faster than a speeding bullet, Scott Wilder responded to my to do list. He has more iron’s in the fire of new media than anyone I know. I’ve written about Scott before. We record the What Would Jesus Podcast together. He has been doing more and more with video lately. He is leading a bible study at his church in this video. I most enjoyed the vocabulary leason throughout.

Scott just announced that he and his wife are expecting . They are going to be great parents! Congratulations to Kathie and Scott.

The next to reply to my to do list was Betty Ortiz. If you are on Jaiku and not following ChibbiGirl then you are missing out. She is fun, full of life and just as cute as can be! I owe Betty some Always the bridesmaid, never the bride photos on her Flickr Group. I’ll get those up soon I promise!

The third and last person to get on my priority list was Ed Tuthill, Bishop on Jaiku. I enjoy following Ed for the interesting pieces of news he posts occassionally. Like so many of the people I befriend online, he isbright, witty and fun to follow. His blog is Free Beer and Shots Around the World.

So with no one else requesting my attention then I move on to the friends and aquaintances that have news to share!

Sheryl and Ken of Star Dust Global Ventures are now engaged to be married. They are the most inter-connectd couple to be found and have lots of ideas on the future of communications and connectivity. I’ve been invited to join them for a conference call this week. I’m looking forward to seeing what they are up to next!

My friend Tara has started blogging. I actually know Tara in real life and had the pleasure to attend her wedding and get to know her family. Following her writtings and family through a blog is great because I haven’t seen or visited with her since my family started. But am reminded why she is such a great person to know. “Thanks Tara! Now get your husband blogging!”

I am meeting many and a varied group of people in my exploration of the Internet. These are just a few. I may need to write a follow-up as I had hoped to comment on more people. But I hear my daughter stirring and need to tend to her.

God bless all!

Maple Syrup Season

Media_httpfarm1static_khiak

I noticed on my drive to work this week that many maple trees have been tapped for the season. The sap is running! It’s maple syrup season in Maine.

I love Maine maple syrup. I know that Vermont claims the title and theirs is very good. But Maine’s syrup is just a bit better. And I think I can taste the difference! :) Easter Sunday is Maine Maple Sunday. Because of Easter, some sap houses may not be open. But I encourage you to find your local sap house, check their schedule and go visit. Buy some pure gold Maine maple syrup and plan on pancakes real soon! I know I am!

Battlestar Galactica crew to be on Dave Letterman Show

According to Sci Fi Wire, the crew of theBattlestar Galactica will be on CBS’ Late Show With David Letterman to present the Top 10 List on March 19. Mark your calendars and set the DVR. Could be very funny!

The fourth and final season of Battlestar Galactica opens on March 28 with a special. Then the first new episode will premier the following week, April 4. If you haven’t been following the previous three seasons then you can catch up in 8 minutes by watching this fast tongue-in-cheek recap, “What the frak is going on?”

I am a huge fan of BSG and am very excited about the new season. They announced quite early that this would be the last season so I expect it to be very exciting. With the hint of who the other Cylon models are and that Starbuck may have found Earth as the plot line, it should be a heck of a ride!

Google Sky in your web browser

Media_httpcontentscre_wmogw

Google Sky for your web browser was announced today. You can read more on the Lat Long Blog. It’s very cool! But I think they have a few bugs to work out. For one, when you view Constellations and view the icons for each Constellation at the bottom, then you hover over the Twins it will say Cancer.[note: appears to be fixed as of March 14, 2008]. The pin on the map is correct as Gemini but not the hover. Otherwise, it’s a very exciting tool for amateur sky watchers! Just another reason for me to love Google!
